6 Steps To Reducing Teen Acne Problems




It helps to know what causes teen acne problems, before you understand how to treat it. A few things related to causing acne include oily skin, hormones, bacteria, blocked glands, and inflammation. Depending on your age, gender, and skin type, the acne could be related to one or all of these things.





1. If you have oily skin, use a soap containing salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy that is weakened for facial use. Beta-hydroxy is very medicinal and is used for the treatment of many other skin problems such as warts. It works by exfoliating a layer of the skin. This keeps the pores from getting clogged with oil, thus preventing pimples. The amount of beta-hydroxy depends on the ailment. Salicylic acid can be very drying and irritating to the skin, so be sure to also use a non-oily moisturizer. If you have very oily skin, you may need to wash your face two or three times a day to control oil and acne.





2. Hormones can contribute highly to acne surges. For boys in the puberty stage, testosterone surges can causes increased oil production, therefore, increasing the likelihood of acne. For young girls, the hormones surges are the same but the hormone that causes acne is different. Some forms of birth control have been proven successful in decreasing acne in females.





3. When pores become blocked from excess oils, bacteria can grow causing infection and inflammation. Antibiotic treatment is needed to treat the bacteria. Photo therapy has been shown to also kill bacteria is shorter amount of time than antibiotics. In many instances, the antibiotics and photo therapy are used concurrently.





4. Oil blotters are a hot item that came out a couple years ago, and has gained in popularity. Oil blotters help to control oil on the face. Oil blotters are made of linen or tissue that absorbs the oil from the face. This keeps the pores and glands from becoming blocked.





5. Acne creams containing benzoyl peroxide also contain salicylic acid. While salicylic acid exfoliates the first layer of skin. This brings the oil and bacteria to the top where the benzoyl peroxide kills the bacteria. This type of cream is best for spot treatments. Usage on a daily basis can cause skin to be too dry.





6. Some natural remedies that have been researched are the use of vitamins to treat acne. Vitamin A, some of the B vitamins and zinc have shown some improvement in acne. The strong recommendation is to talk to your doctor or dermatologist to prevent toxic levels of these vitamins, and to make sure they are taken correctly.
